Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My classroom is a GSRP Pre-K classroom of four year old boys and girls. Eight of my students are boys and ten are girls. Fifteen of my students are English Language Learners, and their first language is Spanish. Seventeen of my students come from economically disadvantaged homes in the inner city of the largest urban school district in the state.
My students come from economically disadvantaged neighborhoods where access to good, nutritious foods is often difficult for many reasons including access, income, and education.
My Project
In my Pre-K classroom, we have been implementing a new curriculum this year which includes a new Cooking Area.
I am asking for equipment for our Cooking Area which includes a Countertop Oven, a Blender, Slow Cooker and a Bakeware baking set, and the other kitchen items including measuring cups, and aprons.
The materials I am requesting will allow us to learn about nutrition while preparing and cooking real food by baking, chopping, and blending. We can educate the children about the nutritional values of foods and encourage new ways of preparation.
This project aims to educate our students about good nutrition in a fun engaging way.
