I teach at a Title 1 building located right outside of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, in an urban setting. I have a very diverse group of learners who love hands-on activities. My 21 energetic 4th graders enjoy learning new concepts. I believe that it is important for students to take ownership of their learning and be proud of their and accomplishments. One way that students are able to take ownership of their work is by explaining their thinking, as well as modeling various concepts for the classmates.
My Project
An Elmo Document Camera and wireless tablet will allow me to model and explicitly teach students new concepts and skills while providing them with a visual. With a classroom full of inquisitive learners who have various learning needs, it is vital that students are able to follow along with the teacher. This document camera will allow me to model reading comprehension strategies, the writing process, math problem solving skills, math manipulatives, cursive writing, fine motor skills such as cutting and pasting, etc.
A document camera and wireless tablet will promote student-centered learning and increase engagement.
It is important for students to take ownership of the learning. This technology will allow students to model, analyze, and explain not just their own work, but also their peers’, while providing a visual to the rest of the class. Furthermore, the wireless tablet will allow students to demonstrate how they solve problems as it projects on the screen to the rest of the class.
Students can also use the wireless tablet to model annotating texts during close reads and other reading comprehension tasks. An Elmo Document Camera and wireless tablet will provide more interactive and differentiated lessons and activities while promoting a student-centered classroom.
