I have been given the opportunity to teach the best group of little people imaginable. They are kind, generous, and appreciate the small things in life. They arrive each day with a smile, ready to show world the greatness inside of them.
These little people are absolutely amazing.
They face many challenges and hardships that would defeat any average person. One hundred percent of my students receive free lunch, English is a second language for the majority of my class, and many are facing extraordinary challenges at home. Some even experience periods of homelessness. My students are not average, however. They are extraordinary!
Despite the many challenges they face, they come to school ready and excited to learn! They come with open minds and open hearts and are the most remarkable and kindhearted people I have had the pleasure to know. This is shown day after day as they request extra time to work in place of recess, show excitement over every lesson or activity I plan, persevere to complete accurate work no matter how long it takes, and extend a helping hand to classmates when they need it.
My Project
Education is critical for success of all students. Unfortunately, sometimes circumstances impede learning. There are times when some of my students experience periods of homelessness throughout the school year. The best way for them to overcome being homeless is through education. It is a high priority for me to make sure that they are engaged and learning with high quality, high interest materials.
The small group reading centers, intervention folders, and project based learning kit will have a high impact on student learning.
My students will love them and be highly engaged as they improve their reading skills. They can use these in small group with me or in collaborative groups independently. In addition, the intervention folders will be critical for closing gaps in achievement in a highly engaging, high interest way.
