Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My second grade students come from various cultural backgrounds and live in a diverse community in an inner city. Many come from low income homes and/or speak English as a second language. They come to school with inquisitive minds and a desire to learn. We set our learning goals weekly and work hard together to achieve them. My students are engaged and strive to be the best they can be. Each day presents new opportunities to share their love for learning in many creative ways. Providing each student with the best possible environment to maximize their learning experience is of great importance in helping to attain each students' goals.

It is important for this population of students to have access to hands on materials that help support the curriculum that they are learning about.

My Project

My students need resources such as play money, books, and games to help them learn how to count money. They can play the Allowance game, count the play money, learn how to count back change and create real life experiences through math money activity centers that will help teach them to make decisions about money. Students will learn how to identify currency, its value, as well as the importance of understanding needs vs. wants.

My second grade students will learn early on the value of money and how to make educated decisions about spending and saving to help them become financially literate.
